Consultations

There are several ways to get help with breastfeeding. Sometimes a phone call is enough, sometimes you need more personal assistance. We can discuss what is best for your situation when you contact me. The costs are always discussed in advance.

Home visit

If you have problems with breastfeeding, a 'live consultation' at home is the preferred option. Usually we try to plan a visit where I can observe an entire feeding session. This gives the most comprehensive picture of the situation. A home visit takes an average of one and a half hours. A home visit consists of discussing what your main issues are, your history, assessing baby's oral anatomy and observing a feeding session. I will leave my written notes with you, and sometimes send some additional information via email or whatsapp. After a consultation at home, we keep in touch for about a week or two. Occasionally a follow-up  visit is required. There are always costs associated with a home visit. The rates can be found here.

Follow-up visit

You have had a home visit before and need some finetuning,  or the situation has changed so much since the first visit that new questions have arisen. Then a follow-up visit is an option. This visit will take about an hour.

Prenatal visit

Sometimes you already have questions about breastfeeding during your pregnancy which you need to discuss personally. For example, you have experienced problems with breastfeeding with a previous child, or there are special circumstances which require drawing up a plan of action before baby is born. This can be done during a prenatal visit. A prenatal visit usually takes place in the last trimester of pregnancy and lasts about an hour. After a prenatal visit, we always keep in contact when the baby is born. The first telephone contact after delivery is included in a prenatal visit.

Telephonic consultation / e-mail consultation

For a question or problem where it is not necessary to observe a feeding session, we can do a telephone consultation. Many questions can be answered by telephone and  plan of action plan can be drawn up. In some cases, we discover that a home visit is preferable. In that case, we can schedule a home visit after a telephonic consultation. A telephonic consultation usually takes about 20 minutes. Some questions can be answered via e-mail, for example questions about medication and breastfeeding, or questions about weaning. An email consultation is charged at the same rate as a telephonic consultation. The costs will be clarified up-front.

Aftercare

After a telephone consultation, email consultation, or home visit, you can still contact me for 14 days with questions relating to the consultation. This contact can take place via whatsapp, email or telephone. If new questions arise, or if we need to stay in contact for longer than two weeks, we will make arrangements about charging for an additional (telephone) consultation.
